Power hour for literacy and taste experiments in Rang a hAon

We’ve done loads this week in first class!
We’ve completed our first week of Power hour for Literacy and it was great fun! There are five stations with a teacher at each and we get to do lots of fun things like reading new books, making new words, writing sentences, revising our familiar reading and learning how to use a dictionary. We move to each station when the bell goes and we love it, because we get to work with all of the teachers and do all of the different activities in one hour. We especially love the new books we are reading and are taking good care of them each night at home. Huge thanks to Therese, Denise, Dan and Becki, who came to help us with our literacy. We’re really lucky as well because we get to continue our Power Hour for the next 5 weeks and by the time we’re finished, we’ll have learned to read lots of fantastic books.
Also in rang a hAon this week, we’ve been learning about our five senses and the parts of the body. We carried out a taste experiment to try to identify the tastes: sweet, sour, salty and bitter. It was a lot harder than we thought but most people were able to pick sweet and salty correctly! We learned that the tongue is divided into different areas for each taste and we tried to work out which part of our tongue we used for each one. We had loads of fun!  More next week but for the moment, have a look at our photos:IMG_1724IMG_1723 IMG_1722 IMG_1720 IMG_1718 IMG_1717 IMG_1716 IMG_1715 IMG_1714 IMG_1712 IMG_1710 IMG_1709 IMG_1708 IMG_1707
