Senior Girls Football Team Make History! Champions!!

The Senior Girls Football Team have made history with their fantastic win against Robertstwon N.S. in the Cumann na mBunscol Division 4 Final in Moorefield yesterday.

It was a fantastic display of football by both teams. The girls were playing into the wind in the first half and despite this, managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over by getting four points. The backs were put through the paces with a very strong and talented Robertstown team coming at them. The defence were amazing and despite the strong wind conditions, they managed to keep Robertstown to 3 scores. They scored one goal and two points by half time. This put Robertstown in the lead by one point going into the second half.

This is when the girls showed real heart and it was so obvious how much it meant to them and how much they wanted it. They took advantage of the wind and upped the tempo from the second half throw in. The girls were outstanding all over the pitch. The backs kept up the amazing work rate, holding Robertstown off from getting anymore scores in the second half. Sara, Lily (captain), Abbie K, Aisling (vice captain) and Jasmine were the dynamite force in the backs. The dynamic duo in the middle the pitch, Emily and Freya, were outstanding. Up in the forwards, the scores starting flying over and under. The movement off the ball and support play was fantastic, not to mention the wonderful one-two runs up the pitch. Our fantastic forwards were made up of Ena-Mai, Erica, Juliette and Ffion and our super-subs that came on in the forwards were Ella D, Mikaela, Tia and Ellen. We had points from Ffion, Juliette, Freya, Ella D and Emily. We had goals from Freya, Ella D and Tia. The final score was a whopping 3-10 to 1-2!!!

We have a huge squad and each and every player has had a hand in getting us to where we are today! It was an amazing and much deserved win for the girls and I couldn’t be happier for them and prouder of them! You can see from the photos below how happy they are with their win:

I would like to thank the parents, children and staff members who came to support the girls yesterday. It was fantastic to see so many faces and I know it really boosted the girls to hear the cheers from the sideline.

I would like to thank the parents for their continued support during the year. We always had enough lifts for games and it is very much appreciated. We couldn’t have done it without you!

I would like to thank the amazing team. You are a wonderful group of girls and it has been an absolute pleasure to work with you. Your work rate, commitment, appreciation, and dedication has been second to none. It has been so much fun and I am incredibly proud of each and every one of you. The picture below shows some of the kind and caring girls that make up our team:

Finally, I will be so sorry to say goodbye to our 6th class team members, some of which have been part of the NETNS Football Team since it started up. I have no doubt that these talented bunch of girls will continue to make their clubs proud and have a massive impact on their Secondary School teams in the future. I would like to thank you for everything over the past few years and wish you all the best of luck. So it’s goodbye to Ellen, Tia, Mikaela, Lily, Ena-Mai, Ffion, Emily, Aisling, Juliette, Jasmine, Isabelle and Joy. So happy you got to lift the cup for your school before you leave!
