Senior Infants: Our School

Another busy week for senior infants.

We made a visit to the foyer to meet a special visitor ‘Jack’ the greyhound. The countdown is on for our school fundraiser: Family Fun Race Night at the Newbridge Greyhound Stadium. The fundraiser takes place on Friday the 13th of October. There will be an art competition on the day with some great prizes, a big raffle and a teachers fun race and lots more. For more information, contact reception. Tickets on sale now.

Senior Infants are into their second Aistear topic already and it is all about school. The boys and girls are working hard to find out more about ‘Our School’ and those who work within the school. The class ventured around the school to find out more about the classes and the general layout of the school earlier in the week. They discussed those who help out in the school and why each one plays an important part in the running of the school.

The class are working hard at the investigation station where they are looking at different kinds of materials found in the classroom such as wood, metal and plastic. The children are recording their findings and sharing them with the class.

Another station includes small world construction where the class are building up a school building using blocks and wood. They are working off a giant map to identify different areas of the school. There is great team work at this station!

In the roleplay area, the boys and girls are super busy, attending to phone calls, writing emails and talking over the school intercom at the reception. They are also rushed off their feet fixing up the school and the caretaker in the school.

At the writing/drawing station, the class are going through a school daily routine. They are working together to sequence their own routines and drawing them and discussing them with the class.

The final station is Junk art, a firm favourite. The class are designing their own school buildings and the designs are so impressive! Lots of planning is going into their buildings. We are being very patient with our cutting and taping as we know it is challenging to cut cardboard. The boys and girls are very creative with their designs. Some are even adding a top and bottom floor.

Take a look at the boys and girls busy at work below.

Well done senior infants!
