Space rockets, travelling through space and How to Catch a Star!

We’ve all been really enjoying learning about space, the planets, stars, our sun and the rest of the solar system in Junior Infants!

At the beginning of the topic talked about what we wanted to learn about and then watched some videos of the planets and Space Rockets. We even saw astronauts working in space! We learned some super songs about the sun and the planets.

In the role play area we had a rocket to play with, some of us were busy fixing it, whilst others got in and piloted it!

We read the book ‘How to Catch a Star’ by Oliver Jeffers and then drew pictures of the beginning, middle and end. We even designed our own space rockets and made small planets and stars from mala.

This week we read ‘The Way Back Home’ by Oliver Jefferies and  made puppets from the story

We also got to build our very own rockets after designing them last week. It was brilliant. We added fins and windows and made rocket engines with lots of different colours.

We drew pictures of our own ‘journey through space’ and explored everything we had learned about space in the role play area.
