Finishing up 2017 in Senior Infants

Over the past few weeks, senior infants have been working extremely hard with Power Hour, Aistear and their handwriting.

In the final week, senior infants focused on Gaeilge songs such as; “Bualadh Bos”, “Daidí na Nollaig” and we used lots of Gaeilge out on yard. We also did our winter poem; “Little Polar Bear”. We put actions to our poem to make it more fun.

The fun continued into Maths when we looked at 3D shapes. We discussed the features of four 3D shapes; cube, cuboid, sphere and cylinder. We discussed where we might see these 3D shapes within our environment. Pupils also brought in some examples of 3D shapes from home and these included cereal boxes, money tins and die. We also tested each shape on whether they could roll. We predicted correctly when we said the cylinder and sphere roll as they have a curve.

On Wednesday and Thursday we did Christmas art. We made a folded Rudolf and personal snow globes.

We started watching The BFG movie after completing the novel. We watched the movie during our lunch time and we also started a new short story by Roald Dahl; “The Magic Finger”.

Power Hour will continue for one more week in January so keep up the great reading over the break!

Finally, I want to wish each and everyone a happy Christmas and best wishes for the new year. I’m sure all the boys and girls will be enjoy the break and will be well rested and ready to start the new year!
