Book Week in Sinéad’s 5th

Another busy week was had in 5th class as the class took part in some whole school activities to celebrate Book Week. The class had no homework on Tuesday and encouraged to pick up a book and read that for homework. They also quized their family on their favourite books. In class the pupils took part in Book themed charades and they also designed a book cover for their favourite book and wow the talent for drawing is amazing in this class. There might be some book illustrators in future coming from N.E.T.N.S! They also designed comic strips and we had 2 overall winners: Liam, Angel and Natalia!!! Well done guys.

In other matters, the class are preparing for Seachtain na Gaeilge which will be starting in our school next week. The class are practicing their céilí dances for March 12th where they will join their neighbouring school to perform and celebrate all things Irish! The class know 3 dances now and enjoying it. They also designed a board game as Gaeilge that they will teach and use with 1st class next week. Finally in terms of Gaeilge, the class are continuing to sing the song “Cailín na Gallimhe” by Mundy. We look forward to putting all this hard work to great use next week!

In maths, 5th are onto the topic of time and are learning about the 24hr clock, adding and subtracting time and how we need to borrow time from the hour if the minutes is short.

Later in the week some of the class made a great effort to dress up for World Book Day and then on Friday the class dressed in something denim for Denim Day to raise money for such a good cause. Many thanks to all the wonderful donations given by the class.

The class also planted some seeds on Friday. They planted a wide variety of herbs and vegetables. Next week the class will create clay pots for their seeds to continue to grow in.

Finally, the class attended the 6th class assembly on Friday in the halla and watched some amazing singing and reading from 6th as they spoke about the 1916 rising. They sang the song “Grace” and the audience got to learn about the major people involved in the rising including Keannt, McDonnagh and Pearse.

Take a look at some pictures taken throughout the week.
